Toluca, Mexico - Club America faced off against Toluca FC in the fourth jornada of the Liga MX in which Las Aguilas walked away with three important points away from home. In a match that lacked much dynamic and attacking enfaces from Miguel Herrera's side the team sought out a close narrow victory with many questions still circulating around the teams functionality on the pitch.

After winning 3-1 against Xolos at home, Club America knew the importance of what this game would be in regards to continue to build form for the season. Miguel Herrera went out with the best possible eleven at his disposal, noting that Nico Castillo, Emanuel Aguilera, Nicolas Benedetti and Jeremy Menez where all discarded for this game due to injury: O. Jimenez, P. Aguilar (c), B. Valdez, C. Vargas, J. Sanchez, S. Cordova, G. Rodriguez, R. Ibarra, A. Ibarguen, G. Dos Santos, R. Martinez.

From kickoff the team seemed to have an issue really finding understanding with in their game model. While on the other hand Toluca came out right away looking to take the game to America and because of this Miguel Herrera's side began the game on the defensive side of things. Even though Toluca controlled much of the ball for the first half America did well to close spaces down and not give much attacking room for Toluca to try and maneuver. But it seemed like the idea was there for Club America, which was wait and try to release on the counter, which ultimately lead to the only goal of the game later on in the second half. When going forward America where subjective to their own undoing as they lacked creativity at points of the match and imprecise passing in the final third.

The incorporation of Roger Martinez as the number 9 and Giovani Dos Santos behind him did not work in this game as planned. With Roger at times dropping deep leaving a big gap upfront for Gio to cover, the inter swapping of positions just didn't flow as expected. This meant that when America did have the ball most of the time the attack would be stomped by the fact that there was no target man up front for the team to find. And in the defense players like Carlos Vargas and Jorge Sanchez found the day to be quite tough getting beaten on the ball and off it.

It was a decent show case from Club America against Toluca and says a lot of this team that even playing with very little they where able to walk away with the three points and only where subjective to being scored on because of their own mistakes. In the second half nothing changed from the team but they where well enough to contain Toluca and when the moment arrived of a counter Renato Ibarra was able to take the chance in front of him.

Up next for Club America is MLS champions Atlanta United in the Campeones Cup which will see these two face off for the first time in history.
